My daughter and me had a great experience with Rashmi and her amazing driver Lakhabhai. She was extremely kind to postpone her planned trip and accommodate us when we called her in the last minute. She came up with an incredible itinerary in spite of our visit being in the off season. Rashmi really cares about Kutch culture and artisans there. And we’re so grateful for her to have shared her incredible relationships with us. And how appreciative all of the artisan clusters were for the difference she’s making in their lives and their craft.
Not to mention:
- the beautiful salt flats of Rann as far as we can see.
- the LLDC museum which is a showcase of traditional embroideries and different local sects.
- Dholavira, experiencing one of the oldest civilizations and walking in the ruins with Rashmi explaining all the archeological facts.
We would love to explore other parts of Gujarat and India with Rashmi, and Rann Escapes, with her incredible knowledge of religion, archeology and textiles. We won’t be exploring India without Rashmi as our guide in the future.
Thank you Rashmi for your enthusiasm and organizing skills.

Rashmi created a beautiful trip through Kutch for my mother and me. This trip showed us the depth of beauty India has to offer, from ancient history and agriculture to masterful artisans. As an artist, I really appreciated the passion and knowledge Rashmi demonstrated about every artisan. She has forged deep bonds with the communities in the area and has directly supported hardworking families. As such, we were welcomed like old friends into the homes and workshops of these artisans.
Rashmi is also full of hilarious and moving stories. The car rides were as fun as the stops themselves. She ensured we were comfortable, well-fed, and enjoying every moment. My mother and I can say that other than many unforgettable memories, we left Kutch with a new friend in Rashmi.

KOJAIN YOUTH the youth wing of KOJAIN, a non-profit association of the Indian Jain community settled in the USA, invited Rashmi as an Keynote speaker for their annual retreat. The 1-hour online talk (over Zoom meet) titled "Migration Nation - Kutch" touched upon an exhaustive list of various facets of Kutch. The presentation gave this 2nd generation of the Indian Jain diaspora a wider perspective of their native motherland and brought them closer to their roots.
Hello Rashmi aunty, thank you for your wonderful speech and presentation. It was really cool to see our people travel all the way from Africa to modern day India. Thank you so much.
Rann escapes offered a thorough and engaging description of Kutch. This tour explained in detail the beginnings of civilization to the contemporary organizations such as KVO. This tour also provided information on the various topographies as well as the arts and culture. Although this presentation was virtual, it was captivating through photographs, videos, and narration. The highlights of Kutch were also well integrated. This presentation was very interesting and well thought out!
To start off, I really appreciate the time and effort Rashmi masi put in to share her knowledge about Kutch with all of us. I absolutely loved the presentation, and I feel like I learned so much more and now feel more connected to my Kutchi heritage. I was personally really fascinated by the history of Kutch and feel like I learned a lot more about both the people and geography of the land. I also loved the inclusion of places to visit in Kutch as it made me feel more inclined to go there and see everything there is to offer. Overall, it was an excellent and very interesting presentation, and I appreciate you sharing it with us!
Rashmi Auntie and Hemang Uncle worked diligently to create an amazing and unique experience. Not many Kutchi-Americans are able to visit Kutch and learn about the people and culture. However, Rashmi was able to bring Kutch to our group and teach them about the beauty of our homeland. It is no easy task to create a presentation that is so detailed and interesting, but they were able to do so. This experience just reiterates my respect and love for them and their hard work.
Rashmi Aunty and team were amazing giving us a Zoom tour of Kutch. Everything from the presentation of the graphics to Rashmi Aunty’s explanations was perfect!
Rashmi Aunties presentation helped me understand the origin of Kutch and also allowed me to connect with others. It also reminded me of my trip to Kutch in 2021 where I went to visit the Rann of Kutch. It was a beautiful presentation!
Very informative on Kutchi culture and origins and well explained. Really enjoyed the session and I feel much more knowledgeable on Kutchi culture.
Rashmi Aunty and Hemang Uncle, thank you so much for the amazing talk when it came to the culture and history of Kutch. Before the whole presentation itself, you guys were great to work with, and it really showed how much work you put into the keynote presentation. You made it very easy to work with you all, and you took our wishes and customized the presentation to shape what we wanted to learn about and here. The presentation was done with great enthusiasm and was captivating. It was a pleasure working with you!

Just loved my experience with Rashmi & Rann Escapes. My 6 day tour was perfectly customized to me and the itinerary was incredible. All the same, there was room to pause and experience those organic moments like spotting 100 camels by the roadside and stopping to chat & have chai with their shepherd.
Rashmi and her incredible driver, Lakhabhai have deep roots across the district and as a result, I got to really interact with the locals - whether it was having an authentic Kutchi meal at their home or delving deep into their artisanal craft. Each day was more spectacular than the next. Rashmi was able to provide deep guidance across a range of areas from history, to archaeology, to architecture, to religion - she even has experience in the fashion industry and helped me to shop!
Highlights include sunset at Dholavira in the Indus Valley - the 2nd oldest known civilization, meeting the local artisans, sleeping in a traditional but comfortable Bhunga (clay yurt), another sunset at the White Rann (a natural phenomenon which leaves a breath-taking desert of white sea salt), exploring old ruins, praying at the most serene and stunning temples, drinking endless cups of chai and photographing swaths of wildlife.
Most of all, Rashmi & Lakhabhai were an absolute pleasure to be with and ensured I was always so well taken care of - I would definitely recommend Rann Escapes to see Kutch or any other part of India!

Visiting Kutch was a long-standing bucket-list item. From looking at photo spreads of wild asses on the Rann in the Illustrated Weekly, and buying amazing embroidered garments through Shrujan, in my youth, to more current anecdotes and Instagram posts from friends who had visited, all spurring me on, it finally culminated in planning a girls’ trip in February this year.
Where does one begin? How do we explore the region? There is so much to see and do and we know so little about it. Luckily Sangita (who has the BEST travel network) had friends who had done a trip and recommended Rann Escapes to organize it for us. Ruchika volunteered to reach out. And so began the planning with Rashmi, who started this company years ago because of her love for travel and the region.
We arrived in the small town of Kandla one sunny February morning, temperatures already hinting at what the scorching summers must be like. Rashmi herself met us at the airport, along with her trusty companion Lakhabhai, who drove us everywhere over the next few days. And what a few days it was. It was so packed with amazing experiences that I am not sure where to begin! I will list a few here:
• The Rann of Kutch. We reached early evening and took a horse cart to the entrance of the flats. Just our luck – we had the most reluctant horse, poor thing! Once we reached the entrance, we had to walk quite a long way out to get past the throng of tourists, quad bikes, motorbikes (when will these be banned to preserve fragile ecosystems?) to where we could actually see unspoiled stretches of white salt. Amazing photo opps of course and a magical sunset. What a way to begin the trip.
• The Road to Heaven - a bit of a misnomer because Heaven was not really waiting at the other end (Dholavira was), it is the stretch of road itself that is Heavenly. Pristine stretches of water and salt flats on either side. Salt crystals glistening in the noon sun. Serene and undisturbed. A few stray Lesser Flamingos, grey-feathered because they are not eating enough algae providing them the carotenoids they need to turn their feathers pink. It is a landscape unlike anything I have ever seen before. We could have been on the moon, in Heaven, in some other world entirely. Magical.
• Dholavira - site of a city from the 3rd century BCE, part of the Indus Valley Civilisation. School history lessons came to life as we saw granaries, drainage systems, the Citadel, bead workshops.i>
• Shipbuilding as we approached Lakhpat. Beautiful wooden dhows being painstakingly constructed. i>
• Lakhpat Fort - the last outpost, the Pakistan border being 40 kms away across the marshy flats. The lack of railings fazed me a bit as we climbed to the top of the fort walls but oh boy what a view. The added bonus - no other tourists. We had the place all to ourselves!
• The Lakhpat gurudwara - a home where Guru Nanak rested on his travels, now a Sikh place of worship. It houses the customary Guru Granth Sahib as well as Guru Nanak’s padukas, or wooden slippers. We enjoyed a few moments of contemplation and the tasty langar food.
• Also in the fort environs, a small dargah (tomb) with a spectacularly carved exterior.
• The abandoned houses spoke of a rich history - the Akbani mahal, now in ruins, belonged to a wealthy trading family, and the town had a customs house and a Parliament. Sadly, now all falling into disrepair.
• All the way to the south of the region, the Vijay Vilas palace. Modest as palaces go, but very pretty and nicely restored.
• Mandvi beach. Southern end of Kutch. Do NOT go on a Sunday evening. We dodged camels, horses, cows, dogs, people, people, people. More quad bikes and manic jeeps pulling paragliders. Zorb balls, kayaks, water sports promoters. Despite the madness, managed to catch a beautiful sunset.
• Bhuj - a delightful mélange of gorgeous historic homestay (The Bhuj House), museums, street food (Balaji Dhokla! The best!). The LLDC museum is a fabulous showcase of traditional embroideries and culture.
• Khadiya Dhrow - after the bumpiest off-road drive ever, the spectacular gorges at sunset - fascinating rock formations and striations.
• The absolutely mind-blowing artisans we met. They included a family selling beautiful quilts and block-printed pieces and a Padma Shri award-winning Rogan art workshop. But the outstanding ones for us were:
- Hussainji, the Bellmaker of Nirona (sounds like a book by Umberto Eco). With a twinkle in his eye and an adorable chuckle he showed us how he makes bells from scrap iron with no welding
- The Vankar brothers, Shamji bhai, Ramji bhai, Arjun bhai, who showed us their Indigo dyeing, weaving and historical pieces with justifiable pride and delight. Such a magnificent job and now they have partnerships with international designers but always retain the final say in the designs to preserve traditions.
This was a taste of what we saw but what made it special was Rashmi’s experience and clear love for the region. She was tireless, enthusiastic, and willing to do anything on a whim or random expression of interest. So we also stopped to fraternize with a herd of camels and have tea made with camel milk (only Sangita and Lakhabhai volunteered for this!), eat streetside dhokla for dinner instead of fine dining, go in search of handva, seek (unsuccessfully – the season was over) some undhiyu, eat the most divine mawa at a roadside stall in Bhirandiyara. Her networks of friendships with people from all walks of life, clearly the result of a lot of work and effort on her part over the years, mean that you have access to the most amazing experiences and interactions with the most interesting folk. Having Rashmi with us, along with the gentle presence of Lakhabhai, also meant that as a group of women travelling alone, even when we were the only guests at a resort in the middle of nowhere, we felt perfectly safe. Rashmi was also perfectly flexible and amenable to our many demands - for food, shopping, photo stops, chai breaks, whatever - she put up with it all with good cheer and a smile on her face!
We came back overwhelmed with the richness of our experience. We had covered vast areas of varied geographies, done so many many different things, and were so much wiser on all things Kutch thanks to Rashmi who is a powerhouse of information. It actually took us a couple of weeks to just process all that we had seen and done!
Would we go again? We would, in a heartbeat. And whether she is up for it or not, we will be contacting Rashmi again when we do!
Thank you, Rann Escapes!

My son and I were visiting Kutch exploring textiles. I am so glad I ran into Rashmi on day 1 at one of the weavers in Bhujodi.
Rashmi took our experience to a whole another level. She knows and cares about Kutch people and culture and custom tailored our visits today. I am so thankful she shared the relationships she has built with the craftsman in addition to richness and varied arts/workmanship. I feel like we have just scratched what we can do in Kutch and looking forward to many more trips with Rashmi.

Thank you so much for taking us on such a lovely trip today! it meant so much for you to be coming while on your day off and while your usual drivers were busy. you had curated a great itinerary so that we did so much without being overwhelmed or exhausted. And I really appreciated having a guide who was so involved with the craftspeople and with their communities. especially seeing ramjibhai and his family, and how reserved they were but open to you, i felt very honored to be accepted into their home. hoping your efforts continue to pay off and can see a better kutch as the years go on. looking forward to meeting again.

Wow! This trip was amazing and so incredibly memorable. Everyday was exciting and adventurous and I felt very comfortable through the entire trip. Being able to see the crafters was by far my favorite part and now I have authentic souvenirs that I will remember for a lifetime.
Rashmi auntie is so amazing. I was always interested in the activities and her conversation. She is very knowledgeable and has truly made a lasting impact in Kutch. Without her kindness and dedication we wouldn't have been able to see the inner workings of these craftspeople and their families.
The accommodations were wonderful and I have no complaints!

My family and I have just come to the US after an incredible trip to India and by far one of the highlights (and best parts) was the unforgettable journey on this Kutch tour organized by Rashmi and Hemang of Rann Escapes. I was born and raised in Kutch and before moving to the US, traveled extensively throughout the region. I wanted my daughters to see and experience all of Kutch—our homeland—from the geographical and natural wonders to the cultural and diverse communities and their amazing crafts.
Despite living in and exploring Kutch for most of my youth, every minute of this trip brought new memories and experiences that I can share with my daughters for years to come. The only thing that stayed the same was the Kutchi people’s hospitality and welcoming nature—which is a credit to Rashmi’s long standing relationships and presence in these communities.
Some of our favorite parts of the trip were the “behind the curtain” experiences that would have been impossible without Rashmi.
● We visited a world renowned quilt maker and were able to speak to his wife—an award winning hand embroiderer. This family, like many other communities in Kutch, are very conservative and normally do not let women/girls interact with outsiders, especially men. However, with Rashmi, my daughters and I were able to meet many of them and chat with them. We learned that they were planning for one of their daughter's weddings, and she shared all the preparation they were doing for her including a collection of their traditional jewelry. They would not have opened up like this and shared such an intimate part of their life to us without being guests of Rashmi.
● We also visited a cluster of families famous for their lacquer art on wooden items, like spoons, spatulas, and toys. It was unfortunate to see their poor living conditions and the discrimination these families still face. But we were very impressed by the work Rashmi has done to help improve their living conditions, education for girls, and bring economic opportunities to them. Her stories and experience of working with many of these families and the progress these families have made were interesting topics of discussion during car rides.
And of course, no trip to Kutch would be complete without visiting the beautiful White Rann or exploring the ruins of Dholavira, the Harappan Civilization ruins. Being able to meet all the amazing artisans—Rogan art, weavers, bell makers, and more—is an experience that you cannot get anywhere else besides Rann Escapes and Rashmi.
We were pleasantly surprised by the seamless organization and planning and all the arrangements provided by Rashmi. Each day was carefully thought out to give us enough time to see and experience so we weren’t rushing through it.
Thanks to Rashmi for meticulously planning all aspects of the trip, comfortable accommodations, and transportation. Her knowledge of Kutch’s history, culture, and local traditions enriched our experience. We are already talking about a second visit in future to further explore Kutch, but only with Rashmi!

It was by pure chance that we contacted Rashmi and Rann Escapes. While searching about travel in Kutch, Kanchan came across Rann Escapes and wrote to them, amongst other travel agents too. It was the manner of Rann Escapes’ response and the first few interactions with Rashmi and Hemang over email that told us that this was going to be different.
And it was different!
We are just back after spending 11 days with Rashmi on a tour of Ahmedabad and Kutch. And what a trip it was. Every single day was different, and each day was meticulously planned, with something different. Whether it was the history of Dholavira and Rani-ki-Vav to the beauty of the Calico museum, from the wonder of the Lakhpat Fort to the fading craft of dhow-making at Mandvi, from visiting the artists in village Nirona and weavers in Bhujodi to spending a night in a village school near Dholavira, we experienced it all, thanks to Rashmi.
The more Rashmi gets to know you as a tourist and your areas of interest, the more she is able to customise the tour for you. We had heard a lot about the richness of what the region of Kutch had to offer, but by spending 11 days with Rashmi, we got to know the region, it’s people, their language and their culture, the beauty and simplicity of their craft much better….and we weren’t disappointed.
In Rashmi, not only did we come across an excellent tour guide but we saw another aspect of her personality, that of a kind and caring person. The manner in which she interacts with those from the village and the craftsmen, the details she knows about many of these families, the selfless support that she and Hemang provide for Lakhabhai and his family (more about him below), and much more exemplified clearly the more humane and caring side of Rashmi the person.
Over the 11 days, we were fortunate to be in the care of one of the best drivers that we have seen, Lakhabhai. Not only was he a safe and responsible driver, but he was also a soft-spoken but wonderful person. Each day, we were driving for at least 5-6 hours but with Lakhabhai at the steering wheel, we felt totally safe. Our very last meal on the trip was a memorable evening spent with Lakhabhai and his family at their home with a lovingly made home cooked meal. His family of his wife Valuben, and their three sweet children Hansa, Pallavi and Sailesh are not only a very nice family but they are also very fortunate to have Rashmi and Hemang in their lives.
We would without hesitation recommend Rashmi and Rann Escapes for anyone touring that part of India. She is a proud Kutchi and through her intimate knowledge of the region, she does justice to the richness of what Gujarat and Kutch have to offer.
We came across Rann Escapes looking for a tour guide, but in Rashmi and Hemang we have found good friends too. We hope we will have an opportunity to travel with Rashmi (and Lakhabhai) again in future. Thank you, Rashmi and Lakhabhai for 11 of the most interesting days we’ve had on our trip to India.
Warm regards...Sanat

Kutch tour with Rannescapes was a great experience.
There was so much to experience on all fronts – sight-seeing, monuments, people, food and the experiences shared by Rashmi. We realized that Kutch is not about Rann Festival alone. She also brought in the right people to enhance our experience. The Art, the People and the Social Organisations working with the local populace - all contribute to this GRAND - COLOURFUL - LIVELY festival of life in Kutch.
The tour was very well organized and every moment we spent in Kutch was worth it.
With so many kids on tour, not everything can go on schedule. But Rashmi quickly made changes so that we do not miss on anything.
Rashmi had answers to all our questions. Her colleague driving the bus was also great. Their cheerful conduct enhanced our experience on the trip.
I would love to spend more time in Kutch again in future – Offcourse with Rann Escapes!!!

We are extremely thankful and grateful to Rann escapes for arranging an amazing tour of Kutch. All arrangements were excellent and we didn't face a glitch anywhere during the trip. Rashmi understood our requirements well and took great care to ensure all our requirements (include strict vegan dietary requirements) were met throughout the trip. Rann Escapes gave us a unique experience of Kutch taking us to various hidden gems and away from tourist traps. The team at Rann escapes was also very flexible and made accommodations for all our requests which included getting to know the locals and experiencing their home cooked food. As the popular saying goes "Kutch nahi dekha toh kuch nahi dekha", we would extend it by saying "Rann Escapes ke saath Kkutch nahi dekha toh kuch nahi dekha!".
A special shout out to Rashmi’s social initiatives as well. Its highly inspiring and uplifting. It is extremely satisfying to know that the profits of the trip get routed to meaningful initiatives. This is one of the most professional yet humane travel experiences we have ever had. We would wholeheartedly recommend Rashmi and Rann Escapes for any of your travel plans.

Rashmi helped us with everything and she showed us all the amazing and special places of Kutch. She kept us entertained and was very friendly and hospitable. She even went out of the way to organise fun games for me and my little brother in the car. I really loved the food especially 'sev tamatar subzi' and the places Rashmi took us to eat. The food was very unique and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. I liked the hotels and inn’s we stayed at. The service was nice and there were no complications. All the places she took us to were quiet, not crowded and the whole place was very peaceful. Finally, the museums and memorials were really interesting. The interactive exhibits were my favourite. All in all, I had lots of fun and really enjoyed my trip to Kutch. Thank you for organising this trip for us Rashmi.
Aayush Iyer (Swati & Anant's son).
I have never seen Kutch like this before.
Dholavira, the city of Harappa /Indus civilization - their water system, food grain storage, playground etc. we were back in time.
The White Rann on eastern part of kutch which is smaller in size as compared to northern white rann. Here we saw sunset and full moon rise. Lucky us, the entire white rann was to ourselves.
A unique temple and a story which is showcased in a movie called “Hellaro “.
Museum called LLDC showcasing Kutchhi art and its artists community & Ajrak printing workshop.
Meeting a unique family who has preserved the art called “Rogan art”, bell making artists, special water conservation technique, ate with locals and enjoyed North white Rann.
Travelling to Nani Khakhar (our native village) where we prayed to our family goddess. Visited our ancestral home and a beautiful beach in Mandvi.
Last 2 days in Kutch were absolutely amazing. We met with a local weaver family who is not only expert in weaving but also a master of dying fabric using natural dyes.
Lastly visited cenetophs of all the kings of Kutch (14 tombs I believe) called Bhuj Chhatardis .
This trip turned out to be the highlight of our 2022 India visit.
Thanks to Rashmi for organizing such wonderful trip for us.

Every foreigner visiting Kutch & Gujarat should have Rashmi as a guide.
She is from Kutch, Gujarat and as such she is a well of knowledge.
Furthermore she speaks very good english which allows you to perfectly understand her explanations as well as asking questions ; but essentially it avoids you to stop listening at her because you are too tired making efforts to follow the explanations.
She pampers her clients even preparing sandwiches for breakfast in case of a very early departure.
Visiting the craft communities, she is at ease with all of them, like a member of their family. She can talk about the different crafts for hours (you could have to stop her ......).
She also know a lot of things about the herds of buffaloes or camels you meet on the way. For example, do you know why buffaloes have mud baths in the hottest hours of the day? Not only to help insects from biting them but essentially to maintain the temperature of their body at a certain level and so far to stabilise the Ph in order to supply a richer high quality milk....
That’s the kind of interesting detail Rashmi is able to teach you.
Last but not least, she is not "a money maker guide", she is a traveling companion to discover the Kutch area.
Thank you so much for everything Rashmi, hope to meet you again.

Back to Europe, (which seems such a tiny handkerchief after India) the memories of my journey with Rashmi develop and multiplicate their fragrance, their flavour, as a good French wine does on a good French cheese. Gosh we've done a lot ! Rashmi's extreme professionalism, courtesy, knowledge and patience, the devotion she allows to you, especially in never counting the hours, made this trip "over rich" of sightseeing. Forest and jungle landscapes, remote villages, with the everyday life of their farmers, amazing museums and heritage architecture, old temples, Maharajah's palaces giving homestay, tribal culture actuality and and and ....
Now, back home, the memories of those thirteen days will become mental images during years and accompany me everywhere I go, allowing me to understand and see better what I had no time to do on the move. The only task which belongs to the traveller is, I think, to be extremely precise on what he wants to do and see, what he likes and what he doesn't . And then Rashmi will sew a "luxurious costume sur mesures" that he will definitely enjoy!
Bye Rashmi, and thousands of thanks!

From waiting for us at the bus stop in the early morning winter chillness like an eager childhood friend, to seeing us off at the railway station - it has been an emotional bonding with Rashmi and through her with her land Kutch. This week has been one of the MOST precious experience and moments of our lives.
At the outset the rural houses of the artisans of Bhujodi, the valuable institute of LLDC, the Grand Vijay Vilas Palace and the laid back Mandvi Beach, each has come alive because of Rashmi's detailed description.
The civilization of Dholavira has unfolded in our minds because of her passionate tales and of her rich experiences with her work. Her love for the land, the animals and her people with their rich crafts and culture leaves one with in-depth understanding and respect for the land. The unique experiences of interacting with the pastoralists, the village school children, the magical white expanse of the Rann of Kutch, the excited time under the chilly star light sky are treasures embedded in our heart.
Rashmi brought alive the grandeurs of the Lakhpath fort, the Akbani Haveli and the streets of settlement in the Lakhpath village. The experience of visiting the prayers at the gurudwara and the 'langar' were very humbling experiences.
The stay at the village resort and visiting the village at Hodko are ever so lovable and dear. But for the over commercialisation of the Rann Utsav in the white rann, the whole of the experiences did not feel like a typlical commercial tour.
The hospitality and warmth of Rashmi and the people of Kutch made the tour feel like a visit to our family home. Rashmi's connect with her land and the local people made all the difference.... Her passion, care and concern for her land shone through her work, enabling us to look at Kutch as a living, thriving home to many, rather than simply a tourist destination.... In Rashmi we both mother and daughter have made a friend and in Kutch, a home forever.

I traveled solo for the first time to India for a month-long pilgrimage in Gujarat in February 2019 and had high expectations from Rashmi to organise my trip and she has exceeded my expectations.
Rashmi has contacts everywhere and things come together with seeming ease, harmony and efficiency. She works tirelessly for her guests. She wants to be sure all your needs are being met. She is polite & calm. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Kutchee, Sindhee & some French. She has excellent, safe and clean resources in the places where she travels including food places and stay places. Hires safe, professional and courteous drivers, the best I've ever experienced. She understands the dietary needs of her touring guests and always conveys those needs to staff at mealtimes. She is always asking "Are you comfortable? Is everything alright?"
Rashmi loves to study, and her two areas of interest are art and culture. She can explain in significant detail various subjects such as antiques, textiles, weaving, Jain dharma and historical facts.
Many gestures, small & big, shown by Rashmi have touched me and have left a lasting impression in my heart:
- She provided bottles of high-quality good tasting bottled water. We never run out of water. We are always being asked if we'd like more water bottles.
- She brought extra sheets for our dharmashala stay, anticipating the sheets might not be clean. And she was right!
Our car was cleaned every morning before departure.
- In Ahmedabad I saw her arrange a doctor to visit a couple in their 80's who wasn't traveling with her but had recently met her in Bhuj during their tour. They were traveling back to their home country London and the wife was experiencing anxiety and possible High blood pressure. Rashmi within 5 minutes of finding out her condition had made a couple phone calls and had arranged a doctor to make a visit to the couple's hotel room prior to their departure for the airport.
- When my flight from Ahmedabad to Mumbai was cancelled, I was told there was only one other flight that afternoon to Mumbai and it was sold out and I'd have to depart the following day, thereby missing my connecting flights back to the U.S. Rashmi told the ticket agent very calmly and professionally that would not work and she literally stood in front of the ticket agent very calmly and continued explaining why I needed to be on that "sold out" flight and believe it or not, we left that office with a confirmed ticket on that "sold out" flight. I was able to keep all my connecting flights.
Rashmi loves her work and is always upbeat. She exemplifies professionalism in all aspects of her job, and I would surely engage her if I have to visit India again.

Thank you so much for your incredible guiding and help. Camilla's amazing tour was taken to another level by your expertise, knowledge and contacts. I felt so privileged to have had such wonderful experiences and all the benefits a local expert brings and of course a historian - particularly appreciated. Visiting your school was so special too, a real high spot of our whole trip which was so fantastically varied. I have a lot of very envious friends now and if any of them decides they would like to go to India I shall be sending them in your direction. I have already given lots of the scarves and so on to their various new owners and they have been much appreciated so worth the time spent deliberating!
Thank you again and to Hemang too. The website photos are great.

Rashmi is an excellent trip organizer. She is a wonderful person and a good company to be with. She knows the culture, the places and the food of Kutch well. She was thoroughly involved in our trip and took great care of us, so we really enjoyed our trip. We would highly recommend her ,if you are planning a trip to Kutch.

The more I go to Kutch, the more I love it and more I enjoy it. Although I visit Kutch often, when ever we travel with Rann Escapes it is always a different experience. This year I & my husband planned a trip with Art Collage friend & her husband and asked Rashmi to organise our trip. She is an excellent trip organizer and designed the trip keeping us in mind. Right from pick up from the train station, the vehicle, the driver, the resorts, eatery joints, choosing the places to visit, crafts villages etc. every thing was excellent.
We were introduced to weavers, lippan craftsmen, bandhani dyers, etc. We also visited LLDC Crafts Museum. Being a part of origanisation 'Paramparik Karigar', I am always in look out for new crafts and new craftsmen who require more exposure to wider markets. Rashmi herself being very artistic , and a great knowledge of crafts and the history of Kutch, has introduced me to many such craftsmen.
Excellent weather, good roads, good stay places, nice authentic Kutchi food, good traditional Kutchi Music, and lots & lots of crafts put together with Rashmi's immense knowledge on Kutch made our trip absolutely memorable.

As I am coming from the art background my interest for this Kutch trip was both to enjoy the beauty and also the rich traditional art and crafts of Kutch. As we have been keen travelers we were not sure how both the aspects will be taken care of in a short trip. But It was indeed a great experience to spend our vacation with the planning and support of Rann Escapes. Right from day one from receiving us at the train station to the comfort and the smallest needs were taken care of by them.
The visit to Dholavira and was an overwhelming experience to see the harappan excavations!!! It almost felt unbelievable and unreal to be standing within the ruins 5000 years old. The experience was particularly enhanced to have Rashmi to guide us through the smallest details and sharing the stories of the period to be able to visualize the life and also the progressive technology and eco-friendly community living then.
Our main attraction for this trip to Kutch this time was 'White Desert'. The expanse of the white desert which is actually salt Desert was gorgeous!! The arrangements were made to visit both the sunset and sunrise comfortably. A car was arranged both ways early morning and also the camel ride was an interesting experience.
Most importantly all the stay places were very special. The farm stay at Amrut baug, rural stay at Sham e Sarhad, Hodka and beach stay at Sarina Resort, Mandvi were all exclusive, diverse with flavor of authentic local food available.
Our visits to various national award winner craftsmen was 'on the top' bonus!! As Rashmi has been closely working with the craftsmen for a long time now, visiting the Bandhani makers, block printers, Lippan artists, weavers etc in their homes and workshops was truely informative of the processes involved in each of the art forms. Also it was an heartwarming experience to enjoy their hospitality and warmth, an experience to treasure for life.
On whole we only felt fortunate to have selected Rann Escapes to plan our holiday to Kutch which was rich and refreshing.
Wishing Rashmi and Rann Escapes all the joy and success.

This trip to our native Kutch was a very cherished and memorable one for our family. We came across Rann Escapes through word of mouth by guests who have travelled with Rashmi in the past and recommended her service. Special thanks to Rashmi and Hemang for creating a very well planned custom itinerary for our group, all of whom had various special requests for diet and places to visit. We had to make some last minute changes to the itinerary and Rashmi was very flexible and able to accommodate our requests. All the accommodations we had were wonderful! We felt welcomed and were treated like family guests. We especially enjoyed staying at the beautiful farm stay in village Kharoi. Here, we were treated to some of our favourite typical desi meals – poha, bajar ji maani and dal bati to name a few. Rashmi also took us on a fun tour of the farm that was one of a kind!
Both Rashmi and Hemang are extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the history of Kutch, local culture, and arts. Hearing their explanations as we walked through the ancient ruins at Dholavira and the palaces of Bhuj, made us feel transported back in time. We also enjoyed exploring the Great Rann of Kutch at sunset. Seeing the natural beauty of Kutch was an unforgettable experience! Additionally, it was truly unique to visit the villages of the local artisans. Not only were we able to meet the artisans, but we spent time with them, learning about their handicrafts and the laborious process behind creating beautiful works of art.
The overall experience made every person in the tour feel fully immersed and closer to our Kutchi heritage. The intimate nature of the journey allowed us to experience Kutch like we never had before! We highly recommend travelling with Rann Escapes!

When I used to watch the travel shows about Kutch on TV, I always felt whether it is really possible to cover all the things that are shown in travel show. We four school friends decided on Kutch as our final destination. I came across Rann escapes on Face Book and then the fun began.
When we reached Gandhidham and saw Hemang come to receive us at the railway station, that gave us the homely feeling and warmth. The complete tour planned by Rashmi was simply amazing. Before going to a particular place for e.g. Dholavira the archaeological site , Rashmi would give us an idea about the place. So we actually used to go back in that era and the experience was nostalgic. She covered the visits to rural villages , semi rural towns, beaches, farm house fields, the rann, the palaces, temples, social service organizations in such a way that there was never a moment where we had to rush at any place. We were at leisure and yet covered so many things. Even the accommodation and transport was very comfortable.
Rashmi was not our tour escort but she became our friend and a group member. It was good to know that all the artisans have such a deep respect for Rashmi as she understands their skills and the hard work that they put into making the wonderful things.
Honestly, I had never expected that there would be so many things that we will see in Kutch. Many thanks to Rann Escapes.

It was fabulous vacation. It was perfectly planned. Rashmi has a very good experience of managing things perfectly and precisely. Whether it was typical Kutchi food, going to beautiful sites or visiting to different artisans. It was an excellent programme. It is because of Rashmi's artistic suggestions, we could buy very beautiful handicrafts from Kachh. The arrangement for stay everywhere was very nice. All the resorts selected were calm and cool. The greatest experience for me was to visit the ancient site of Dholavira. I have no words to thank Rashmi for that special gift.
Travel becomes very interesting when you are travelling with a person who knows thoroughly about the land and loves it. I am very happy and hoping to come back with my family soon.

Fascinated by the sustainable handicraft industry in Gujarat, I very thoroughly explored the various guides and options for traveling to Kutch on my own. I feel so lucky to have found Rann Escapes because my journey was nothing shy of a once in a lifetime experience. From a homestay with a family of quilt makers way off the beaten path, to watching the sunrise over the White Rann - every moment was memorable.
Thank you Rashmi for all the work you and Rann Escapes continues to do to help preserve the handicraft community of Kutch. Your love for the land and the people shines through in every way.

Being native of Kutch, we never knew the beauty lying beyond, and realized that we couldn't have learnt so much and experienced the diversity of Kutchh without Rashmi in this trip. In our childhood days we have read about the Indus valley civilization, and walking through this excavated site along with Rashmi and learning the intelligence behind its built, brought the visuals and divine architecture excellence of that ruling era in front of us. There seemed a lot more to it deep under the ground and we hope someday we will see this civilization completely restored. Furthermore exploring the Rann of Kutch, its heritage, culture, various forms of arts and crafts was enriching. We saw the real beauty of the Rann of Kutchh as we moved from east to north through the Majestic White Rann, the picturesque 'Royal Cenotaphs and Palaces', temples and its mythology, Village Stay, meeting the locals and learning the various arts first hand. Each artist seemed even more special, after learning the fact that the art was being followed through several generations. One can only say 'Wow'!! Much thanks to you for organizing this personalized, comfortable and memorable trip for us. We look forward to another tour down the lane.

It was my first time back in Kutch, my native land, in more than 10 years. With Rashmi and Hemang, though, I got to see a side of Kutch I never knew existed, and one that I'd have never been exposed to without their help. From the camping in extreme solitude in the white flatlands, to staying and eating in multiple temples, to meeting locals of a variety of castes, colours and creed, the three days I spent in Kutch were breathtaking and now I yearn for more.
There isn't one single highlight to the trip. The star gazing and star photography I got to do was fabulous, and helped by the lack of any other tourists around for miles. The visits into various villages were more than just tourist-spot-hopping, as we went to places without any tourists, talked and ate with the locals and felt like family. The night at Kala Dungar was amazing and helped by the fact that we could get accommodation on the hill top (where otherwise, accommodation isn't easily available). And to top it off, a whirlwind visit to Bhuj which was the parting gift.
And all of this, I realised, wouldn't have been possible if I had been travelling solo in my usual style. The network of contacts that Rashmi and Hemang have, along with the vast powerhouse of knowledge that Rashmi is, made the trip extremely enriching. I'll be back, soon.
Thank you very much indeed.

Kutch is wrapped in wool, treasured as an antique and cocooned in a time wrap. Rann Escapes demystified Kutch for me; it unraveled its secrets slowly and finally unmasked the jewel - the mighty white Rann. Rashmi in her gentle, passionate way, brought meaning to the land most of us would never understand !
I am grateful for the experience and the exposure to textile heaven, to creativity and ingenuity at its best.
Thank you very much indeed.

We took a tour with Rashmi and Hemang in December 2013. Ours was a group of odd 10 people - age ranging from 6 years to 78 yrs, nature varying from cranky, talkative, shy, excited, religious, some kutchis and some non-kutchis and with all that they had managed an itinerary and activities so well that everyone at the end of the tour said that we have never had a trip like this and we want to have at least 2 more trips with Rashmi and Hemang.
On returning back I told my friends and colleagues that we have seen beach, rann, Indus valley civilization... we have been to houses of potter, weaver, cloth printer and not only seen how they do the art but also had hands on training.... we have seen centers for animals and for special children... and we have seen temples, palaces and museum.... all of it in these 6 days..... We have learnt the history of Kutch, the history of art of Kutch and the history of humankind... all because we travelled with a girl who has studied the history, textile, art and archeology of Kutch.
Far beyond the formal tour description, there are innumerable moments where Rashmi and Hemang have touched our hearts ~ Even before we got off the train, Rashmi was standing outside the train coach with a porter at 5:30 am in the morning at Gandhidham station, she would run around searching for ice-creams for little one and Jain food for mummy, the girls jumped all around Hemang giving different poses for photographs at Rann, Hemang carried folding chairs in Rann for the elders who could not sit down and saw to it that everyone enjoys the Sunset, they packed picnic-food for th e Dholavira visit, Rashmi called up the hotel and ensured that a forgotten doll is kept properly to be picked up later and courier back to the young one ..... and the list can go on.... There are many moments where we believed that Kutch lives in Rashmi.... She greets all artist as if she is meeting the family and the artists treats her guests as their own guests. Everywhere we were offered tea, lunch, chhas and what not, along with big smiles.... Travelling with Rashmi and Hemang is pleasure, listening to their stories and information is fun. Rashmi has established an amazing network which takes her tour to a higher level.
But that is not the reason why I recommend a tour with Rashmi and Hemang. I recommend a tour with Rashmi and Hemang...... because no one can show you Kutch the way they can... because they are passionate about showing Kutch to all... because Kutch lives in them and you can feel that when you travel with them.

This Kutch tour has made a remarkable positive change in us. Indeed they have made us more knowledgable about Kutch by their guiding throughout the trip. Truely the credit goes to Rashmi & Hemang to make our journey worthwhile and our vacation memorable.

This trip was an intimate introduction to Kutchh - Up Close and Personal. There were lots of cherished moments - being face to face with the Maharao of Kutchh at Mandvi Palace, visiting a potter in the intimacy of his home, herds of camel in the Banni, organic folk hymns under the stars in the stark beauty of Hodka, a muster of peacocks in the beautiful lawns of our stay near Mandvi and many more...
Having landed from the U.S only a day ago and two kids in toe, going through the trip without being anxious and not thinking about what comes next is all because of the talents of Rashmi and Hemang. Their knowledge, contacts, instincts and experience made it possible.
The itinerary was relatively relaxed, had interesting things for the kids and beautiful accomodations esp at Mandvi and Hodka. The meals were a delight - "shudh desi" in Mandvi. Ironically Domino's Pizza at the end of the trip was Arushi's undoing. Also, Rashmi has a penchant for the arts and artists of Kutchh. So we were able to have an intimate experience of their art. We got the opportunity to try pottery and block printing with the artisans.
We would recommend Rashmi and Hemang's services to anyone who wants to make their time in Kutchh - special and engaging.

We had a wonderful trip with Rashmi & Hemang in November 2013. While we visited many places, there were 2 highlights of our trip.
The first was visit to Dholavira, an archaeological site with excavations dating more that 5000 years old. It's a beautiful place. When Rashmi explained the history, way of living, etc of those days, it seemed that the site had come alive and we were transformed back in time. The Wood Fossil Park was excellent where the geological formation of lava and meteors fascinated us.
The second highlight was the "CAMPING OUT" in "WADI". When Rashmi told us that we would be staying in a tent in a farm, my 8 year old son, Samyak, was very excited. But I was a bit apprehensive. When Hemang started pitching the tents, Samyak joined him immediately. Soon even I joined in pitching the tents. We all got in Camping-Out mode. We cooked dinner on the farm. We were enjoying thoroughly, when Hemang announced that we have to get up at 5:00 in the morning for bird watching. The excitement on Samyak's face is something I will always cherish. Bird Watching the next day was amazing. Flocks of birds, leaving their nests and circling above and then flying away. And then the next flock leaving their nest, and then the next. I would have never imagined seeing so many birds in a Dessert land like Kutch.
The way the farm hands welcomed us, everyready to take care of the smallest needs and the warmth they showed, confirmed the Indian culture of "Atithi Devo Bhava". Lunch cooked by the farm hands, using the organic vegetables grown in the farm, was just delicious. For Samyak pitching and staying in tent was very adventurous and he enjoyed it so much, that he wanted to stay in tent even in Mumbai. He even asked Hemang to gift him a tent on his birthday :-)
The 2 day trip with Rashmi and Hemang was full of fun. They are very creative and always have something different to do every time. This sets them apart from others. Overall it was an excellent trip for all three of us, specially for our son Samyak.

The planning of the tour started with a Facebook picture of Hemang in a "Desserted" area along with some good pics of birds and nature. What started off as a FB chat ended on a well planned Customized tour with a 24 hour representative to take care of all your needs to the T.
I think the knowledge which Rashmi has of the local carftsmen is superb which made our tour more better and meaningful. The small nuances of the region which she highlights and tell us is great. Unlike other tours, where normally operators take you to some standard spots and shops so that you can buy lots of stuff and they enjoy "lots of commissions", Rashmi took us to the original creator of that product and we could see what kind of effort goes in making the product and hence the cost.
Normally the operator gets bored of the same location as he keeps on visiting it every week, but I would otherwise say that at times Rashmi was even more enthusiatic than us and was describing the things as if she has also been there just once. Because of Rashmi & Hemang's good work in the region, the people whom we met were also talking highly about them and at times we also got priority in many of the places, like a full "VIP" treatment.
The Diwali day started with an auspicious visit to the Swaiminarayan temple in Bhuj and the dinner which we had on the hill-top restaurant that day was the icing on the cake.
The Hodka village experience was the Best. We were shown the intricacies of the livelihood of the people staying there, which otherwise we would have never seen, since a normal tour operator would take you only to popular places.
Rashmi was on her toes morning 8 to night till we retired into our hotel room, taking care of all our requirments and she & Hemang continued that till our departure and dropped us right into our train coach, which was highly appreciated.
Right from the Village visits, to the Beach, to the Palaces, to the Indus Valley Civilisation site and of course the Karo Dungar, each and every experience was a big eye opener. When we started our tour we had never thought that Kutch has so much to offer and we feel like coming there again. Overall I would lilke to say "Kucth nahi Dekha toh Kutch nahi Dekha and Rashmi & Hemang ke saath Nahi Dekha toh bohot Kuch Nahi Dekha ………".

We take this opportunity to thank Rashmi and her team for acceding to our request and conducting Global Village Activity & showcasing Kutch & its arts, in India First Foundation School at Karjat, from October 27 to 30, 2013.
The philosophy of IFFS is to go beyond books and teach the ways of life. It is not just a school to us, but it is a movement wherein we wish the entire student community get the best education possible with all the value systems intact and owning up our country and speaking up for its rich heritage and culture. The school helps children evolve into responsible citizens of nation apart from attaining a high standard of education. Global Village Activity has been instrumental in our mission to provide value based education to students and give them hands on experience.
This was our second Global Village Activity of this academic year. It was indeed a unique experience for our students, teachers and even the grandparents who were on campus for the Anubhuti (Grandparents' stay visit) Activity. Everyone enjoyed the activity and learnt a lot from Rashmi and her team. We are sure that Rashmi's knowledge about Kutch and her audio/visual presentation on Kutch has helped everyone in many ways. We thank and congratulate her for all her contributions made which is appreciated as a whole. We wish her and her team the best in all their endevours.

Thank you very much. Thanks for the very professional approach with a human touch in global village activity. The parents & grand parents were very happy. Congratulations.

It was indeed a unique experience for me. I learned the block printing and made it on a piece of cloth which will always remind me about this creative work by me. Apart from this, the teaching style, the patience and creativity of the artists was also highly appreciable. They were handling all the students very patiently and sharing the information about the art, tradition and culture of Kutch. The programme in-charge Mrs. Rashmi was communicating very well and was very keen to inculcate the spirit of art among the students.
Mr. Hariprasad (Member, School Management Committee, IFFS, Karjat, India).
It was our second Global village activity of the academic year 2013-14. Working with Rann Escapes was a great experience. We were contented with the art and core of Kutch. The response and planning for the activity was very organized and methodical. Our school was very fortunate to have the authentic artists from the heart of Kutch.

We were visiting Kutch after 30 years and we had the most enjoyable tour, thanks to Rashmi. After discussing our interest of exploration and natural cares she had prepared an excellent tour itinerary for us. It covered quite a few attractions of Kutch. Her local embers knowledge, exploring experience and personal acquaintances with renowned national award wining textile & craft artists, enabled us to see places and artists in action in remote villages of Kutch, which we would otherwise have missed. Her suggestion of stay at Sham-E-Sarhad resort near the Rann of Kutch was a excellent suggestion and we will not forget this memorable experience. Also she commanded a lot of respect fromartists and local people..
We love to and would certainly recommend Rashmi, who is a certified guide for Kutch and gives detailed attention in planning and execution of local tours in Kutch.

Our Kutch trip would not have been so memorable without the detailed itinerary prepared by Hemang. His knowledge about Kutch is fantastic. The places which we would have not thought to visit otherwise (like Dholavira,Wood Fossils) and the different artisans' visits recommended by him in the interiors villages were too good. Also the stays suggested by him were very good, especially Kutch Safari Lodge, Rudramata & Shaam-E-Sharad Resort, Hodka near the Rann. We had a great memorable time.

In November 2010, I had to lead a group of 24 members from our organisation Paramparik Karigar (An Association of Craftspersons), an NGO working for betterment of traditional craftsmen in India, on a field trip to Kutch. We had to meet artisans in the remote villages of Kutch and without the help of Hemang & Rashmi right from suggesting suitable time to visit Kutch - to travel & stay arrangements - to planning the itinerary for 5 days, it would have been very difficult to plan the successful trip that we all still cherish. Each one of us looks forward to revisit Kutch.
If anybody wants to visit Kutch to get a first hand experience of its traditional handicrafts, textiles and craftsmen, I would highly recommend Rashmi as a guide.

In the year 2010, end of February brought us tremendous happiness due to exposure to our own country's beautiful region. A trip to Kutch organised by Rashmi and Hemang is the trip that I am talking about. Right from booking the tickets till seeing us off at the train after 5 days, they looked after us well. As we alighted at Gandhidham station, we were taken for a nice breakfast, all cooked by Rashmi and Hemang. We were about to relax a bit, but Hemang said "come, let us go first to see the work of our crafts people". We followed him. It was so engaging to see their work, that we completely forgot our daily routine. We went to rest at Hodka a fantastic resort. The atmosphere was beautiful. Open to sky, the tents had just the right things that we need to rest and relax. The food was fabulous. Hemang by now had gone to make further arrangements. We were waiting for him as we went for dinner. And there he was standing at the threshold of Hodka, like an angel. The next day we saw Kala dungar, then vast land with Salted soil the white Rann of Kutch. (we even picked up a small piece of salt which is still there in the kitchen, as a memory of those wonderful 5 days), and the beautiful beach of Mandvi and the organic date farm at Rayan, and the magnificient 72 Jinalay Temple, so many beautiful places.
I would recommend a tour with Rashmi and Hemang any time. They are with you most of the time telling you stories associated with the places. If they are away, they are busy taking care of you for next chapter of the tour. Touring with them has left us with a permanent wish to go with them again and again.
